I understand the ban on food in the library due to mess, but some people rely on caffeine to complete long library shifts. I think we should be allowed to take coffee cups with lids upstairs.
This ban is especially frustrating during assessment periods when you may need multiple cups of coffee/tea during the day- this could lead to wasting at least an hour of potential work time. The last thing you want to do is waste time drinking your coffee on the ground floor when you could have it by your side as you continue to work.
I'd personally like to see a vote or referendum on the issue. Another idea is we could allow coffee cups with lids upstairs and see how it goes for a month before deciding on the final outcome. I do believe this change will benefit a lot of students.
Thank you so much for submitting your idea to us. We have liaised with the University and Library and they have confirmed that hot drinks may be taken upstairs in the library, however they must be in sealed keep cups with lids. Paper cups obtained from café outlets will not be allowed upstairs in the library - If you don't have a Keep Cup they can be purchased from the Library Cafe, and also at other coffee outlets around campus.
