Extend deadlines due to strikes
Submitted by Chloe U.

Lecturers extending the essay due dates/dissertation due dates in order to compensate for time lost due to the strikes. We have missed a lot of vital information due to lecture cancellations and therefore should be compensated with extra time for essay writing and third year dissertation submission.

HUU has been on a university working group whose aim was to minimise disruption and ensure effective communications to students, potential students, staff, and external stakeholders.

The group met at least once a week before, during and after strike action. We have worked together to make sure extensions where given where appropriate and this was done through module mitigation forms.

The forms highlighted a summary of teaching sessions missed, a review of impact on students’ current and future learning, a review of impact on assessments and the action plan for mitigating the impact.

If students were unhappy with the action plan then they had the right to appeal and HUU has supported them through the process.

Student Officers also escalated urgent problems to the university registrar to help get extensions for students
