Join a Society

A society is a group of students with a common interest. There couldn’t be a better or easier way to make new friends with similar interests, or if the taste of new experiences that University brings has got you feeling adventurous, why not submerge yourself into something completely new?

Our societies represent a wide range of interests, from the extra curricular to the downright whacky. With the likes of Debating Society, Performing Arts and even a Come Dine with Me Society, there’s likely to be something out there that tickles your fancy. Follow the simple steps below to become part of something special.

  1. Choose the society you would like to be a part of by checking out the list here. Each of the groups has their own page that helps you to find out more about them.
  2.  Visit to sign up and pay for membership online or visit HUU reception on the ground floor of the Students’ union and pay in person.

If you have any questions regarding society membership, fees, or contacting any of the societies listed, please contact our Societies Executive Committee (SEC) at

Society Points

Society Points are a great way for societies gain recognition and accreditation! Working towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, points are awarded to societies for simple requirements such as holding executive team meetings, to more complex activities like holding an international trip or event.

Points are divided into six categories so our societies can see which areas they excel in, and will be collated throughout the year. Depending on their points, socieities will be awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold award at the end of the year. There is also the opportunity for one society that has particularly impressed the SEC and the VPA to be awarded a Platinum award!

Society Points encourages good practice and interesting activities to make members enjoy the year as much as possible! Gold, Silver and Bronze awards are proof to current and potential members of how amazing societies are!
