On 20th May (Friday) we posted the following statement as a result of the NUS miscalculating the value of our retrospective discounts. We therefore delayed the result of the referendum until today (24th May) and invited any students wishing to make a complaint to submit it to us by 5pm on Monday 23rd May. We received eight complaints in total from individual students who would have changed their vote from affiliate to disaffiliate in light of the miscalculated figure. Following a review of those complaints our Chief Returning Officer is satisfied that the referendum result is valid.
What happens next?
Hull University Union will disaffiliate from the NUS. The HUU Trustee Board will now begin the process of identifying workable timescales for transition to disaffiliation including the negotiation of new commercial supplier contracts. We will provide full updates regarding the dates and timescales for disaffiliation. Further information will be available following our next Trustee Board meeting on 1st June, 2016. We will work hard to minimise any potential impact on members. We remain committed to our mission to enhance the lives of every person studying at the University of Hull.
