It’s been a fantastic year for the AU, and we are now approaching two of the biggest events in our calendar which help us enjoy and celebrate the year’s end in style; Tour and Trophy Presentation.
As the Easter holidays come around, we have over 600 students counting down the days until we depart for Salou on the 12th of April. Every year the Athletic Union goes on Tour, and to get there we face a challenging coach journey from Hull to Dover, a trip on the ferry, back on the coach, through France and on to Spain – 30 hours later, we arrive! Why do we do it?
Tour allows us to relax (and more) after a busy year of sport and competition. It’s a break from studies, four days in the sun (we hope), two days of sport, and the chance to integrate with other AU Clubs and Universities. It’s an experience that many count as the best week of their year, and many leave counting down the days until we return.
Trophy Presentation - this year held at the KC Stadium on the 3rd of May – is our annual AU celebration of the years work. Not only is it the chance for AU students to dress up and enjoy themselves with a three course meal, but it gives the opprotunity to praise Clubs and individuals on all of their hard work and achievements that have occurred throughout the year.
This year has seen the addition of two new awards; Male contribution to Sport (in line with the already existing Female award), and the Charity and Community award to congratulate those who have excelled in this area and shown that we do more than just sport!
The short-listing took a very difficult five hours between myself, our sports co-ordinator Vicky and the AU Exec. All Clubs that put forward nominations had fantastic achievements and many were well deserving of the awards. However, we had to get that final shortlist, and all will be revealed on the night!
