Visiting friends and family in your hometown this Christmas? Then remember to take a bit of extra care when locking up your student property for the festive period.

Following a number of recent burglaries in the popular students areas of Beverley Road, Cottingham Road and surrounding neighbourhoods; Humberside Police ask for students to take extra care and vigilance during the festive period leading up to Christmas.

Whilst not to raise concern, we ask students to be mindful that offenders may take advantage of vacant accommodation.

It appears perpetrators have gained entry via unsecured communal doors, open windows and through doors where locking mechanisms are in a state of disrepair.

We suggest students leaving over the holidays ensure that accommodation is as secure as possible, the valuables are taken with them, and that nothing is left on show.

Extra police resources have been devoted to the area over the next few weeks, however if you witness any suspicious activity, please contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
