“Being a Sabbatical Officer has been one of the best, most challenging things I’ve ever done in my life. Your job is to lobby the university, represent students and make big decisions most days of the week.

There’s the notoriety; it’s hard to get over the fact that your face is on 20,000 posters on people’s walls. Then there’s the pressure; you’ve got to make a lot of big calls which affect a lot of people. Finally, there’s no getting over the fact that you will never have another job like this. It’s weird, unique and so much fun.

All of this is in the pursuit of one goal; to represent and improve the lives of students studying at the University of Hull” – Richard Brooks, HUU President 2013-15
