The Community Zone is the largest area of the Union and encompasses a wide range of activities and opportunities for your time in Hull.
It is designed to promote and encourage the internal community of HUU and the University as well as improving student/resident relationships and encouraging students to do more in their local neighbourhood.
No doubt you’ll get bored so here are just some of the things you can get involved with:
Volunteering – Hull University Social Services Organisation (HUSSO) offers students the opportunity to make a worthwhile difference while studying and simultaneously improving their CV for finding a job. It’s the one of the best experiences you could have.
Societies – With over 100 societies there is something for everyone. With 3,500 members last year it is the most active element of the Union and there is always something going on. Join up and have some truly amazing times with events locally, nationally and even chances for trips abroad.
Raising and Giving (RAG) – These guys are here to come up with ingenious ways in which to raise money for charity. They are always looking for people to help out, come up with ideas and really become a part of a team; be it sitting in a bean bath or sponsored parachuting.
International Students Association (ISA) – This is not just for students who are studying from abroad but an environment where all students can get together, make friends, enjoy events and trips, and all the while learn about different cultures and countries.
Hullfire Magazine – Hull University Union’s official magazine is always looking for contributors to an active team. All are students and ideas are welcome.
Jam Radio – Have your own show, work behind the scenes, organise events, raise money...Jam Radio offers so much that you are bound to find something to perfectly suit you.
Hull University Students Against Crime (HUSAC) – Always open to ideas, this group is dedicating to tackling the serious issues around campus. You have the opportunity to work closely with the police and implement your own strategies.
Vice President Community also has a student representation role play, representing students on a whole host of issues. As well as sitting on various University committees, Vice President Community is responsible for describing student’s views to the community and local council by attending ward forums. The Community Zone also works closely with the Advice Centre on issues of housing and anti-social behaviour.
